BA History with Teacher Licensure - TUG

In addition to the Gardner-Webb University general education program requirements, students seeking secondary Social Studies licensure will be required to complete the 33 hour History major and the 32 hour Professional Education minor. Such students will also be required to earn credit for HIST 101, HIST 102, HIST 245, SSCI 205 and ECON 203; these courses are all in the General Education requirements and may be taken to fulfill such requirements. Courses not taken to fulfill General Education requirements will be considered free electives with the exception of HIST 245 which can be counted in the History major.

As part of the Teacher Education program (see the College of Education's section of this catalog for further details), you will also be required to:

-apply for admission to the Teacher Education program. This should come as soon after completing EDUC 250 as possible. Students are not allowed to complete more than half of the Professional Education Minor (minus the 12 hour Student Teaching semester--in practical terms this means no more than 10 hours) until they have been fully admitted to the Teacher Education program.

-achieve and maintain a GPA of at least 2.7

-complete field observation and teaching assignments in a number of different classroom environments including a 15-week assignment as a student teacher (EDUC 450) comprising your final semester at GWU. You will work with experienced educators in these settings who will serve as your mentor as your develop real-life teaching skills.

This degree plan is an example of student progression through the program. Academic departments reserve the right to alter the term in which a course is offered.
