PADM 699 Capstone Course - Thesis Proposal, Research, & Defense
This capstone course is taken during the final term of study. This course integrates the theory and practice of public administration, covering a variety of topics including ethics, preparation, or continuance of a public service career, and negotiating benefits, as well as practical problem-solving. Each student conducts a major research project focusing on a major public service or non-profit management problem or issue, that demonstrates practical application of core competencies. The paper is prepared in consultation with an MPA faculty member that must approve the topic and provide supervision and development of the proposal.
Students will demonstrate their achievement of core competencies developed through their MPA course of study. This course will include three key components: (1) Academic Portfolio; (2) Capstone Project; and (3) Reflection Essay. Students will develop a professional academic portfolio where they identify activities and assignments from their course of study that demonstrate their attainment of the program’s expected learning outcomes. Students will prepare a reflection essay of their experience in the MPA program during their preparation or continuance of a public service career.
Note: In the event a student is unable to complete the capstone during Term 5, the capstone course can be repeated in one hour increments as long as the student remains enrolled and does not miss more than one full semester (excluding summer term.)
