PADM 630 Organizational Theory in Public Management
This course focuses on the contribution of several behavioral science disciplines: Psychology, Social Psychology, Sociology, and Anthropology to the behavior of individuals and organizations. Attention is given to the role of leaders in creating and modifying the practices and norms in their organizations. The core topics covered are motivation, leadership behavior and power, group structure and processes, interpersonal communication, attitude development and perception, work design, change processes and organizational learning. These concepts and topics are related to public sector and non-profit organizations. Included in this course will be an analysis of the structure and organization of public administration agencies in the United States in terms of organizational theory and historical development. Substantial readings and a written paper are required.
