EDUC 312 Practicum in Literacy (K-6)

A course designed to provide experiences for the teacher candidate in the teaching of reading and diagnosing reading problems on the K-6 levelEmphasis is placed on the causes of reading difficulties, diagnostic instruments, standard and informal assessment procedures, report writing, and materials and methods of reading instruction. Working with individual students and/or groups of students in the school classroom are class requirements. A device capable of recording is required for this course. Thirty five (35) hours Clinical Experience required. Clinical Experience placement requests will be communicated by the Director of Clinical Experiences. Candidates must request a placement by the deadline and complete the experience in the assigned placement. Transportation to and from placement is the responsibility of the candidate. Prerequisites: EDUC 250, EDUC 302, and EDU 306 with grade of "C" or better; Scores from NC Foundations of Reading exam. For Elementary candidates only. This course and the evidence associated with it align with InTASC 1, InTASC 2, InTASC 3,  InTASC 4, InTASC 6, InTASC 7, InTASC 8, NCPTS 1, NCPTS 2, NCPTS 3, NCPTS 4, and NCPTS 5.
