HIST 355 Premodern China

This course surveys Chinese history from prehistory to the mid-19th century with a focus on major changes and continuities of China’s political, social, cultural, and economic development. We will discuss the myths about traditional China and look at its interaction with the outside world. Important themes include religion, philosophy, governance, family, society, trade, art, literature, and gender relations.
