THEA 381 Theatre History and Literature I

This course surveys the history of Western theatre and dramatic literature from the beginnings of civilization through the Middle Ages and early Renaissance, as well as the origins of non-Western theatre, such as China, Japan, and India. The primary objective of this course is to provide the student with a broad-based knowledge of the traditions, personalities, literature, architectural features, and theatrical technology found in the history of these regions and to show how these elements interact with the political, social, economic, and religious forces of their respective periods.
