Instructional Technology, Master of Arts

The College of Education (COE) has developed a Master of Arts degree in Instructional Technology (MAIT) based on the NCDPI Instructional Technology Facilitator Standards (ITF), Digital Learning Competencies (DLC), the International Society of Technology in Education Standards (ISTE), and CAEP Standards. This program is built upon 21st-century knowledge, skills, and dispositions that prepare educators for technology integration and improved student learning within the curriculum. The online MAIT requires 33 credit hours and integrates a core set of pedagogy courses, internships, and practical applications of technology accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI). This program will require a total of 135 supervised internship hours to be completed over three semesters of coursework.

Mission Statement

As part of the purpose of the MA in Instructional Technology, graduates are encouraged to be lifelong learners and leaders who model, create, facilitate, and collaborate digital literacies within the curriculum that improves teaching and learning.

Admission Requirements

Program-specific admission requirements for full acceptance into the Master of Arts in Instructional Technology are listed below.

Graduates from Gardner-Webb University’s College of Education have the opportunity for seamless admission within one year of graduation based on meeting GPA and licensure testing requirements as verified by the College of Education and documented in a letter from the dean. With this documentation in place and verification of graduation, the application fee will be waived. When applying, candidates must submit items 4 and 5 in the admission requirements below

1. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for all work completed beyond high school

2. Satisfactory scores on the Graduate Record Exam or the Miller Analogies Test, or an "A"-level teaching license or equivalent for those who are pursuing graduate-level licensure

3. Three professional recommendations from persons, at least one of whom is a current or former school administrator, who knows the applicant’s work as an educator or student

4. Access to a classroom in which to engage in teaching and learning

Program Standards

The Master of Arts in Instructional Technology is aligned with the North Carolina Instructional Technology Facilitator Standards

  1. Instructional Technology Facilitators demonstrate leadership.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of learners and learning and promote effective instructional pratices in a 21st century learning environment.
  3. Facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive 21st century instructional technology program.
  4. Build a learning environment that meets the instructional needs of all students.
  5. Actively reflect on their practice.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Investigate, analyze, and evaluate how online resources can be utilized and integrated within the classroom for successful student learning
  2. Evaluate and facilitate the integration of technology into the K-12 curriculum
  3. Analyze basic troubleshooting for technology issues that might arise in the classroom
  4. Synthesize how technology can transform teaching and student learning
  5. Interpret, visualize, and plan for current and future technology initiatives
