Introduction to the Deaf Community
This course is an overview of various aspects of the Deaf community and issues relevant to persons who are Deaf or head-of-hearing. Included will be myths about deafness, the history of the Deaf community, the language of the Deaf, audiological and educational aspects of Deaf life, Deaf leaders, services and resources available to the Deaf, employment and family life. No prior knowledge of ASL is required. This course does not fulfill the target language requirement for ASL majors and minors that
