HSEC 453 Immigration Policing & Enforcement
Few topics in contemporary society have more significance and public policy salience than the study of immigration, crime, and border enforcement. This course is divided into three sections to give students a better understanding of immigration in the United States and the methods of policing and enforcing immigration law. In the first section, students will become familiar with immigration theory and typologies as well as the history of U.S. immigration policy. The second section of this course considers the perspectives on the debate on immigration and crime while the third section uses the criminal justice system to explain the policing and enforcement of immigration law. Global cases of immigration are also considered. To facilitate the student learning experience, this course culminates with a town hall forum where students are encouraged to debate the merits of immigration and crime from various stakeholder perspectives.
