MUSE 200 Introduction to Museum and Archival Studies

This course introduces students to the nature and culture of museums and archives. Students explore museums' and archives' missions and roles in society through case studies and exhibitions in a variety of museums and archives including art, ethnographic, history, natural history, and science museums. Students explore contemporary museums and archives in terms of their history and diversity, as well as current issues facing these institutions. The course focuses on the principal areas of museum and archival work: collections, interpretation, community relations, capacity building, and leadership.
